Cannon Golf Club

Cannon Golf Club has been around since 1927, but the members don’t like to talk about the past, they are a forward thinking group much more interested their golf course today. Located halfway between the Twin Cities and Rochester along the Cannon River, Cannon Golf Club lies in an oak savannah where prairie meets water. The golf course has a well earned reputation for being one of the best maintained courses in Southern Minnesota – with perfect greens. “Real golfers,” those not wanting to take a cart, are allowed to walk the narrow tree lined fairways where magnificent 100 year old burl oaks create a mosaic pattern of shadows and a variety of swirling wind conditions.

Joel Goldstrand, the very prominent Minnesota architect, added a second nine during the hay days of golf; then the never-to-be-satisfied members commissioned Garrett Gill to completely change four holes in 2006. Since the Golf Club has become the hub of social activity in the area, a new clubhouse, that will accommodate up 150 for weddings or parties, was added in 2007. Club Manager and PGA Pro, Greg Lee, who learned his trade at a private club in Iowa, is proud of the fact that the club has continued to prosper, even during these tough economic times.

Cannon Golf Club members will tell you, “You might have your best round ever or… you might have your worst round ever at Cannon Golf Club”. The golf course seems to favor the golfer who hits his ball 180 to 210 yards in the fairway as opposed to the big hitters who want to go for everything and end up chipping back to the fairway. Playing to about 6,100 from the back tees, length is not the trick. Each of the unique holes has its perils, which keeps golfers coming back again and again. Remember, don’t attempt to schedule a tee time on a Wednesday. The 320, very proud members, close the course to green fee players after 11:00 am for Men’s day.
